cupcake love leads to...
...cupcake coma. save me please? after a lovely evening with high school buddies, we ended with a fabulous result: irish car bomb cupcakes (don't hate until you taste them!). we decided we needed to do a "plated" version (à la Top Chef, which apparently isn't showing its new one until next week, not sweet, boo hiss). it looked like this:
this was per the recipe of my earlier post, and they turned out delicious. we messed up the batter recipe, but they were still fantastic. but now... too... much... ganache... (and frosting)... aka my stomach hurts.
on the bright side... i decided to train with swong for the rock and roll half marathon and chicago marathon 2010!! WOOT now i have a legit reason to train. i guess this means i need new yogging shoes though... (boo hoo, more shopping ;-) )
this was an excellent end to a great day (woke up, rearranged my bedroom, which i'm thoroughly obsessed with, and before) shopping with mom and baby sister. we grabbed lunch at cpk (for which i will always have a soft spot), and then hit old orchard. i successfully nabbed 2 rush items (which, luckily, are both staples): a high-waisted black pencil skirt from zara that i LOVE, and black lauren ralph lauren pumps, which i'm expecting i'll be able to wear when i have a real life job (eek!). then gym, and then homemade cheddar and leek mac and cheese with mom and dad... quite nice!

Pain d'epices is now in the oven. If the final product tastes anything like the dough, i'm in heaven.
retail therapy
... so necessary right now. so, in addition to these boots, i now am in love with these:
... endless again. and so cheap! didn't even do that on purpose. i love how they're classy but still cute and dinner-able or go out-able, and i've been dying for nude pumps. now it's a matter of deciding which to get (or, of course, justifying the purchase of both...)
however, i also need money for clothing purchases. i.e. menswear blazer/vest, flowy t-shirt, light skinny jeans, light bag (like this one from piperlime)... the list goes on and on.
also, until now the jury has been out on thigh-high boots. but i saw a girl at the airport yesterday rocking a gray suede pair with her black moto jacket and a chunky sequined scarf under. i'm now not only converted to thigh-highs (and from now until they go out of style will be on a quest for the perfect pair), but have found that my love for sequins has deepened. oh dear...

random
i wish this thing had an "add music" button. but i will have to make do by linking to youtube. i LOVE. love. this version of "we will become silhouettes". just love it. have a hear-see (it's like look-see but not as great). i <3 the shins. that is all.
oohhhhhhhh BOOTS!
like the banana ones i just posted, but slightly lower (read: wear-to-class-or-dinner-able) and MUCH cheaper. plus i really like this color and the bit of extra slouch.
thank you, piperlime! now all i need to decide is whether these are worth waiting until the holidays for...
**EDIT: found on endless. $10 cheaper. and free overnight shipping. i may need to buy these... today.

today i came across...
this dress. which, for no apparent reason, i love.
i guess it's just because it makes beyonce's legs look great, so i assume it could work the same magic on me. also, i'm way too obsessed with neutrals and sequins right now.
oooh and let's not forget what could potentially be the perfect boot (1 of 5...) from banana:
i love the color, the bit of slouch, the shape, the heel, basically everything. and they're not absurdly expensive. this will most likely be going on my holiday wish list... unless of course i cave and buy them first...
also, nosh and tell just tested/posted a recipe for ratatouille.
considering the disney/pixar movie is one of my favorites, i feel compelled to test it myself. this could be problematic, as i am in the process of amassing quite the list of recipes to try over thanksgiving break...

thanksgiving plans :)
t minus six days until i go home, and thanksgiving is on the brain (i even changed my desktop background to fall-ness :) ) here's the recipe!
also, looking forward to shopping with sister... have lots of things i want, and it'll be fun to finally see clothes in person for once before i buy them. i'm thinking a sequined top, a menswear-inspired long blazer/vest to go over, hopefully a feather headband (like this one from urban):
or this one from kmart (i know, kmart, really???)
except more one-piece. i know it when i see it, haha.AND football. with no class involved. soooo. excited.
P.S. colts just beat the pats...!!! :) i <3 peyton
go thursday!
it continues to rain, which is not sweet at all. seriously, it's been 3 days. however, all is not lost! lots of good today:
1. my awesome fam sent me a collection of things: baked goods (peanut butter chocolate chip cookies from my sister, banana bread from my dad), pretty festive things to eat them on from my mom, and some cool articles from my dad, too :)
2. the zoe report (thanks, swong!) sent me really cool mail today:
it's a cookbook of recipes from famous american designers like Zac Posen and DVF. how fun!
3. LOOK WHAT I FOUND!
... now all i need is an iPhone.
4. pumpkin spice latte :) sippin' now. love it.
5. tomorrow is the greek game for bball. read: tailgate, then basketball. WOOT!
6. saturday is football tailgate. DOUBLE WOOT!

rain rain go away
and stop making GIANT PUDDLES EVERYWHERE. seriously, 48 hours of solid downpour is more than enough.
though i guess this gives me an excuse to go wellie (and umbrella, question mark?) shopping...

another tuesday...
... another night of procrastination.
sooo after exploring one of my new would-be-awesome-if-i-weren't-broke websites, Rent the Runway, i came across this little number, yours to rent for only $150! (retail value is $1,600, so i guess it's really not bad if you are so lucky to have that kind of dough to drop on a rental dress). but really, hervé leger, why must you tease me so? this would go PERFECTLY with the matte gray nail polish i'm on my quest for:
anywho, now that that fantasizing about clothing is over...
... i will fantasize about food.
from, guess where? my favorite (read: only known) small-scale food blog, Nosh and Tell. i absolutely love cream cheese frostings (unfortunately for the ol' waistline), chocolate (ditto), and now that it's november, the pumpkin stuff EVERYWHERE that is making me oh so happy. really though, it's an unhealthy obsession with all things pumpkin. i think it's a combination of the sweet pumpkin flavor itself, the spices that are almost almost incorporated, and the utter fall-ness it instills every time it's smelled or tasted. just makes me want to huddle under a blanket and curl up by the fireplace with hot cider (and a pumpkin bar) next to my puppies and watch some football with the fam.
though i must admit, duke is pretty during fall
really though. i've been looking for a dessert to make for my family's annual thanksgiving gathering. i'm sure pumpkin pie will be there (durr), and there will be sweet potato casserole as a side. so, as much as i would love to, i'm attempting to stray away from the sweet orange veggie category, and hopefully find something (dare i say it?) relatively healthy at the same time. an eternal quest, it seems...

oookay since i just had a midterm i think i deserve a study break, in the form of making a massive list of things i've deemed "needs". ready go.
1. i saw a girl in the library wearing matte gunmetal gray, and i need it. absolutely need. anyone know where i can get it? essie's "Over the Top" seems to be close, but is it matte?
ditto a dusty nude color, like opi's "Sand In My Suit". in the meantime, i'm trying to bring back "Lincoln Park at Midnight", which, according to my guy friends, is angsty. i disagree.
2. there are officially 5 pairs of boots i want. brown heeled boots, black heeled boots, frye harness 12's, light tan-ish gray flat riding-esque boots (with some sort of embellishment?), and cowboy boots. thoughts?
6. i will not bore you with the rest of my list, at least not today :)
in conclusion: i need a job.
p.s. john mayer's album leaked. SO GOOD.

3. sequins. i am addicted. ADDICTED. and to make matters worse, piperlime has a feature on the chicest outfit ever. see for yourself here. that also means i need a tuxedo jacket...
Piperlime
4. in addition to a tuxedo jacket, i want swong's new leatherette biker jacket, except in brown, and band jacket (like Stella McCartney's for GapKids, shown here, except not $150...)
Piperlime5. black tights. staple, i know. but i still need some. for under dresses/skirts in the fall and winter for class and parties and YAY.
in conclusion: i need a job.
p.s. john mayer's album leaked. SO GOOD.
food for thought
O.M.G. just click it.
...and this guy....
AND this week's top chef isn't a real one. i'm SO disappointed. stupid world series ruining things. who cares about the yankees, anyway?
BUT my jcrew stuff is coming today, so freakin' excited (no no, i did not break no-spend novemb, this is from mommy!). if only UPS would come before 7 pm, especially when it's been out for delivery since 5 am...
*edit* right after i posted that... literally 2 minutes later... ups man shows up with my stuff! i tried it on and love it even more, especially with my furry russian-style hunter hat. i'll post pictures when i can!

today's likes
1. the new j.crew catalog is simply amazing. even better than the one i got 3 days ago. seriously, their stylists are phenomenal, and now my wish list consists of about 75% of their inventory.
2. flannel shirts. on sale. see here:
(i especially love the lining on the cuffs)
3. it is national peanut butter month, and i plan on celebrating generously.
4. "vanilla twilight" by owl city
5. top chef and america's next top model are on tonight. aka online postings soon! then the office, project runway, and 30 rock tomorrow. glee restarts next week. excellent :)
DISLIKES:
1. massive quantities of homework inhibiting... everything. especially the gym. and the live viewing of like #5
2. no-spend november is a lot harder than i thought. 4 days down, 26 to go...
à bientôt!

inner fat kid, rejoice.
soo since i can't spend any money, i'm going to have to research chicago restaurants to visit when i'm home. another to add to my infinite list: (my cousins rave about this place)
... i'm torn between "neurosis", "led zeppelin", and "bongzilla"
... i'm torn between "neurosis", "led zeppelin", and "bongzilla"
CHICAGO + COMFORT FOOD = LOVE
i absolutely MUST go to this restaurant when i'm home over break. if not thanksgiving, then winter break. swong, you in?
a random smattering of thoughts...
... because doing homework would be WAY too productive. random things that are currently bouncing around my head:

1. no spend november IS NOT AT ALL FUN. but the pain has been lessened by a generous donation to the keep sarah sane fund by my mama. $$ to jcrew. SO excited except that means that i have to narrow down the 17 items that are currently in my online shopping bag...
2. top chef. michael went home?? WHY is robin still around? just, why. she stinks.
3. no lab tomorrow = i'm very happy.
4. firefox personas are way too distracting. i downloaded the application like 4 hours ago and have already changed mine 5 times.
5. the jimmy choo for h&m line is wayyy too cute for it to be safe. swong, we're going over tgivs. there, and akira. and that pancake place downtown that i found a while back...
